Employer: Pelham City Schools Charter System
Position Summary
The Student Writer will support Pelham City Schools Charter System by creating written content for the school system’s local newspaper and official social media platforms, to include Facebook. This role provides hands-on experience in journalism, audio video, and graphic design while highlighting positive events, achievements, and activities across the Pelham Elementary, Pelham City Middle, and Pelham HIgh schools.
Primary Responsibilities
- Write clear, engaging articles for the Pelham City Charter System local newspaper ? Create short-form written content for social media platforms (e.g., Facebook) ? Cover school events, programs, achievements, and announcements ? Conduct basic interviews with students, staff, and administrators as needed ? Edit and revise written content based on feedback
- Ensure all content is appropriate, accurate, and aligned with school system guidelines ? Meet assigned deadlines and follow an editorial calendar
- Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and WBL coordinator Skills & Qualifications
- Strong written communication and grammar skills
- Ability to write for different audiences (elementary, middle, and high school communities) ? Basic understanding of journalism or storytelling principles
- Familiarity with social media platforms (especially Facebook)
- Creativity, attention to detail, and willingness to accept feedback
- Professionalism and ability to represent the school system positively Learning Outcomes
Through this position, the student will gain experience in:

Supervision
- The student will be supervised by a designated Pelham City Charter System staff member.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a Work Based Learning Student
- Must be able to work 1 (90 minute) block per day
Conditions of Employment
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check ? Must have direct deposit
- Compensation is monthly
- Work days will be based off of the 25-26 school calendar unless otherwise directed
Proposed Income
? $10.00 per hour first 90 days (probationary period) and then increased to $13.00 per hour after probationary period
